Manchester United decided to part ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after their 4-1 defeat at the hands of Watford left them sitting at eighth in the Premier League table, bringing an end to his near three-year run as the club’s manager. But there appears to be some confusion surrounding his replacement and when they will bring him in.
For the time being, Michael Carrick is in charge of the team and it looks like they are looking at bringing in an interim manager until the end of the season. But as we know, things can change very quickly in football.
Thus, if the right manager became available then it is very possible that the club would make a long-term appointment earlier than thought. And the rumours surrounding Mauricio Pochettino are picking up pace now.
As reported by Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are confident of hiring Pochettino as their next permanent manager. And as reported by ESPN, Paris Saint-Germain have made contact with Zinedine Zidane in case of the Argentine manager’s potential departure.
Major twist in Manchester United managerial chase
It remains to be seen how things turn out but it is safe to say that most fans would want the club to bring in a long-term replacement as soon as possible.
It will be interesting to see who that man turns out to be and when the move does eventually happen.
Pochettino is certainly a very exciting name. He is one of the most highly-rated managers in world football but his spell at PSG has not been great. They were expected to dominate French as well as European football this season but have not been able to hit those heights till now. In fact, they have had to grind out results more often than one would have expected them to at the start of the campaign. Thus, questions have been raised about the Argentine manager’s future as well.
