Two Manchester United stars left out of squad to face Villarreal
Manchester United might be top of their Champions League group at the moment but things are far from done. A defeat at the hands of Villarreal could leave them in a very sticky position going into the final game of the group stage and as a result, they must look for a result against the La Liga side away in Spain. That’s easier said than done though, considering the situation the Red Devils find themselves in.
Their form has been very disappointing over the past month or so. And the club decided to show Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the exit door after their 4-1 defeat at the hands of Watford at the weekend.
As a result, Michael Carrick will be in charge when the club face Villarreal, in what is a very important game for Manchester United’s European season. And while the caretaker manager already had a huge mountain to climb, that has been made harder, with him having to leave out two first-team stars.
As reported by the Mirror, Carrick has decided not to risk Luke Shaw while Mason Greenwood returned a positive Covid-19 test. Paul Pogba and Raphael Varane are already out of action through injuries.
Manchester United duo left out of squad to face Villarreal
It is safe to say that both Shaw and Greenwood could prove to be big misses for Manchester United, as the duo have featured regularly in the starting XI in recent times.
The Villarreal game is a fresh start for Manchester United in many ways following Solskjaer’s departure after a near three year run as the manager of the club.
It remains to be seen how they do. It could go two ways. Either they could continue to struggle like they have this season. Or we could see a new manager bounce, as is often the case when a club makes a change in the managerial hot seat.
