RIGHT-BACK: Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has not been in top form in recent times and questions have been asked about him. But he has been a regular in the starting XI since arriving at Old Trafford and should retain his place for such an important game.

CENTRE-BACK: Harry Maguire

The Manchester United captain’s form has not been great as well but is hard to see him being dropped for this one.

CENTRE-BACK: Victor Lindelof

Another centre-back who could end up retaining his place in the starting XI.

LEFT-BACK: Alex Telles

Here’s a big change that is expected to be made with Michael Carrick deciding not to risk Luke Shaw and leaving him out of the squad for this one.

CENTRAL MIDFIELD: Scott McTominay

Scott McTominay started the game against Watford and could do the same here as well, although he might have a different partner.

CENTRAL MIDFIELD: Donny van de Beek

Donny van de Beek came off the bench and scored against Watford. And there have been calls for him to be given more minutes for a long time now. He might just have earned a start with his display against the Hornets and the Dutch midfielder might end up starting against Villarreal in the middle of the park alongside McTominay.

CENTRAL ATTACKING MIDFIELD: Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes has not been as effective this season as he has been in the past but even then, he remains an undroppable part of this team.

RIGHT WING: Jadon Sancho

Jadon Sancho impressed against Watford despite the 4-1 defeat and should get a start against Villarreal. The English international has not found his feet at Old Trafford since arriving in the summer and could do with a run of games.

LEFT WING: Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford would be expected to start on the flank opposite to Sancho.

STRIKER: Cristiano Ronaldo

He has been Mr Champions League for a long time and is the reason Manchester United are top of their group. Thus, there can be few questions about him starting.
