Manchester United have not made a good start to the season. The Red Devils were expected to compete for the Premier League title this season but instead find themselves sitting at sixth in the league table, and could even struggle to finish in the top four if things don’t improve soon. Thus, it is natural that questions are being raised about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future at Old Trafford.

Several interesting names like Zinedine Zidane, Brendan Rodgers, Mauricio Pochettino, Erik ten Hag and others are being linked with the Manchester United job. But the Norwegian remains the man in the Old Trafford managerial hot seat for the time being.

Naturally, this has surprised many Manchester United fans and people around football in general, especially considering the fact that several Premier League clubs have changed their managers already this season.

As reported by Give Me Sport, journalist Dean Jones said:

"“The support he’s had, anyone you talk to around United, just around football, to be honest, is just shocked that they’ve allowed it to go this far.”"

Manchester United decision has shocked people around football

It is easy to understand why Manchester United might be reluctant to make a change. Not only is Solskjaer a club legend but one must also remember that he has been the manager of the club for almost three years now.

Thus, during this period of time, he has assembled quite an impressive squad at Old Trafford. Finding a replacement in the middle of the season would be very difficult in the first place, considering many of the names that the club are being linked with are already managing somewhere else. Then you have to take into consideration that they need to find someone whose strengths complement those of the current squad.

The situation is far from simple right now. But if things don’t change and results don’t improve soon, Manchester United might have no other choice but to show Solskjaer the Old Trafford exit door and make a change in the managerial hot seat.
