Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with the Manchester United managerial job for years now. And those links have emerged once again, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future at Old Trafford in doubt after the Red Devils’ worrying start to the season despite signing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Tom Heaton over the summer.
Many expected Manchester United to challenge for the Premier League title this season but things have not quite gone that way. Instead, it looks like they could struggle to challenge for the top four if they don’t improve quickly.
On the other hand, things have not been going smoothly for Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain either. While they sit at the top of Ligue 1, the Argentine has not been able to get the best out of the trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe till now. And naturally, some questions have been raised about his future as well.
As reported by Manchester Evening News, when talking about his future, Pochettino said:
"“For me, at PSG there is only one objective: it is to win the next game.“If not, you have a problem. I know what is happening in this type of club. Paris is one of the biggest clubs in the world and you have to be focused on winning the next game.”"
Pochettino comments on PSG future amid Manchester United links
The links between Pochettino and Manchester United go as far back as when he was the manager of Tottenham Hotspur. Since then, they have been on-and-off several times.
At the moment though, it would be very difficult to bring Pochettino to Old Trafford, considering the fact that he finds himself in one of the biggest jobs in world football right now in the form of Paris Saint-Germain.
The only way that a move to Manchester United might possibly end up being on the table is if the French giants end up parting ways with the Argentine manager in the near future. That does feel unlikely this early in the season, considering the fact that they have a 10-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 and sit in a decent position in their Champions League group as well.
