The 2-0 scoreline did not quite reflect the difference between Manchester United and Manchester City, as Pep Guardiola’s side eased their way to a Derby victory and could have scored a few more if not for the brilliance of David de Gea in goal. The defeat leaves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in a very difficult position in the Premier League and naturally, questions will once again be asked about his future.

Coming into the campaign, Manchester United were expected to challenge for the Premier League title. It is safe to say that till now, it has not quite gone that way. And while we are not even a third of the way through the season, they already have a mountain to climb if they are to get back in the title race.

Solskjaer’s side had the chance to go equal on points with Manchester City, if they could get a win on the day. But that result did not even look likely after kick off. An own goal from Eric Bailly and one from Bernardo Silva handed Guardiola’s side all three points.

Bruno Fernandes has made a honest confession after the result. As reported by the Express, the Manchester United star said:

"“We have to change, this has happened many times already and we are at the beginning of the season.“We have to speak less and do more. We have to do better.“They showed us today we are not at the same level.”"

It is safe to say that Manchester United need to improve a lot if they are to find themselves in the title race once again. The only positive they can take from this matchday is the fact that Chelsea dropped points as well and as a result, the gap between the top and the Red Devils will be 9 points. It could have easily been 11.

Coming back to the game against Manchester City, Solskjaer’s side just did not look good enough. And that has been the case more often this season than they would have liked.

Now though, they go into an international break and the focus must be on coming back strong from it and going on a run.
