Double Midfield Pivot: Fred and Scott McTominay

Fred and McTominay have had their fair share of critics for quite some time now but there is no denying the fact that both of them are integral to Solskjaer’s plans this season.

They provide a good balance of defensive ability while also doing enough going forward. Thus, it would not be a surprise to see the duo start the game against Manchester City as well. In fact, it would be a surprise if they don’t.

Attacking midfielder: Bruno Fernandes

One player who is undroppable for Manchester United is Fernandes. Ever since arriving at the club in January of 2020, he has arguably been their best player.

Fernandes’ role has undergone a huge transformation this season. Last season, his game was based much more on goals. But now, he seems to be more involved in the playmaking side of things and his creative stats have gone up although he is scoring a lot less than he did before.

Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford

Ronaldo has been absolutely superb since sealing a return to Manchester United in the summer. More than once, he has come up with a late goal to hand Solskjaer’s side a win or a draw. And if they are to get anything against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, someone like Ronaldo will be very vital.

There are major doubts over the availability of Edinson Cavani for this game though and as a result, it could be Rashford who partners the Portuguese superstar up top.

That is nothing to be disappointed by though. Rashford has been sensational since returning from his injury. He looks back to his best once again and could end up playing a huge role for Manchester United this season. He is another player who has the habit of rising to the occasion, which could prove to be very important in a game of this magnitude.
