Manchester United are considered one of the best clubs in Europe when it comes to bringing through youngsters. Not only does the club focus on homegrown talents, but they have also brought in wonderkids from around the globe with hopes of developing them into Premier League stars.

With the competition for places in Manchester United’s squad, these youngsters are often sent out on loan to gain experience and playing time at the senior level. This has proven to be a great system to help in players’ development over the years.

This summer, Manchester United sent Tahith Chong out on loan to Birmingham City, who currently play in the Championship. He had been away on a couple of different loan spells last season, with Werder Bremen and Club Brugge. And this time around, he looked set to get some experience in English football.

Unfortunately, things have not turned as one would have hoped. Chong suffered a serious injury and has had to undergo surgery. As a result, he will return to Manchester United and work on his rehabilitation.

Chong will return to Manchester United from loan due to injury

As reported by Manchester United’s official website, the club confirmed:

"“Tahith has undergone surgery to repair a ruptured thigh tendon, the operation went well, and he will return to Manchester United to complete an expected four to five-month rehabilitation.”"

Since joining Birmingham City on loan, Chong had been in decent form. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he made 13 appearances for the Championship club, providing 3 assists in the process of doing so.

Thus, it is safe to say that this is a major blow for the youngster, who had started to find his feet at his loan club but will now have to spend four to five months out of action.

In the 2019/20 campaign, Chong had made quite a few appearances for the Manchester United senior team but has not made a single one since then.

We would like to wish him the best of luck in his recovery and hope that is able to make his return to the pitch as soon as possible.
