Manchester United: 3 ways to replace Raphael Varane
When Manchester United signed Raphael Varane from Real Madrid in the summer, the French World Cup winner was expected to come in and solidify the club’s defence. There is no doubt that he is one of the most accomplished players in all of football right now and naturally, was considered as a major coup on the part of the Red Devils.
Unfortunately, till now, he has not had the effect that most fans would have expected. Individually, he has looked good but the defence as a whole has not quite clicked. As a result, they have kept just two clean sheets this season till now.
On top of that, Varane has had his injury problems as well. It was just recently that he had returned from a spell on the sidelines.
But then, he picked up another injury in the recent game against Atalanta and is now expected to spend around a month out of action. It is safe to say that Manchester United need to find a way to replace him in the team until he returns.
3 ways Manchester United can replace Varane
Here are three ways Manchester United can replace Varane, who looks set to spend around a month on the sidelines with an injury:
Eric Bailly
The safest way to go would be to bring in Eric Bailly into the team. The centre-back has not played a lot of football this season but is a very good option to have in this situation.
Bailly has had his own injury problems over the years which have prevented him from establishing himself as a regular in the Manchester United starting XI.
When fit and on form, he is a brilliant defender and can make his mark in this team. But unfortunately, that has not happened as often as one would like over the years. This seems like the perfect time for him to go on a run in the first-team though and establish himself in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.
