It is safe to say that Jadon Sancho has not made the start at Manchester United that most people would have expected or envisioned. He was one of the most effective wingers in the world while at Borussia Dortmund and had established himself as one of the biggest young talents in all of Europe. And the Red Devils had been linked with him for years.

Finally, they managed to make the deal happen this summer. And he was expected to come in and immediately make the right wing position his own. Things have not turned out that way though.

Sancho has not quite found his feet in English football yet and currently find himself on the bench at Manchester United, getting substitute appearances here and there.

Lothar Matthaus believes that Sancho made a mistake by joining Manchester United. As reported by the Mirror, when asked whether the player made the wrong decision, the World Cup winner told Sky Sports:

"“When I see how many minutes he was playing this season or which games he was playing then I think it was a mistake.”"

Did Sancho make a mistake by joining Manchester United?

It has not quite worked out for Sancho at Manchester United till now as he struggled to make an impact in the first-team and now finds himself struggling to get regular minutes on the pitch. He was not even brought off the bench in the games against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

But there is no question about his talent or potential. Most people expect him to ultimately find his feet at the Theatre of Dreams and nail down a spot in Manchester United’s starting XI. For now, it is about being patient with the English international and giving him time to settle in.

A big worry for Sancho though could be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s recent use of three at the back. If the manager carried on using that system, it will become much more difficult for him to break into the first-team as in that system, there are no wingers.
