After being heavily linked with Manchester United for several weeks, Antonio Conte has joined Tottenham Hotspur as their manager. What will be surprising to some people is how quickly the club managed to get the deal for the Italian over the line this time around after a move had appeared to fall through earlier in the summer.
On the other hand, Manchester United have stuck with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the time being despite a disappointing start to the season.
Interestingly, it was a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United which led to Tottenham Hotspur making the change in the managerial hot seat. And if that result had gone the other way, the opposite might have happened.
Conte was believed to have been very interested in the Manchester United job and as a result, many will wonder why he did not wait a bit longer for it. Solskjaer’s future at Old Trafford is still up in the air and bad results in the future could easily have led to him being shown the exit door.
Why Conte did not wait for Manchester United and joined Tottenham Hotspur
As reported by Independent, Conte saw no prospect of joining Manchester United any time soon. On the other hand, the Old Trafford hierarchy were believed to have had many reservations about the Italian manager.
This surely must have played a part in Conte deciding to join Tottenham Hotspur swiftly, who had sacked Nuno Espirito Santo not too long ago.
It is safe to say that Conte will have a big task on his hands to turn the season around for Tottenham Hotspur, who have not made a great start and currently find themselves in ninth.
On the other hand, Manchester United will be aiming to climb up the Premier League table as well as they sit at fifth, eight points behind league leaders Chelsea.
