Manchester United finally managed to sign Jadon Sancho in the summer after being linked with the English international for a few years now. He arrived with a lot of expectations after a terrific spell at Borussia Dortmund that had seen him establish himself as one of the most exciting talents in all of Europe. It is safe to say that not many could have predicted his start to life at Old Trafford.
We are in November now, and Sancho is yet to either score or assist for Manchester United. What’s more is that he has not even come off the bench in the Red Devils’ previous two games.
People would have expected him to take some time to adjust to the Premier League. But even considering that, it has been a very slow start for Sancho at the Theatre of Dreams.
And now, he has another major worry – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to change the system in the game against Tottenham Hotspur.
Sancho could struggle for minutes at Manchester United this season
Solskjaer went for three at the back, a couple of wingbacks, a double pivot in midfield, an attacking midfielder and a couple of forwards in the game against Tottenham Hotspur. And it was a massive success as they sealed a dominant 3-0 win at the weekend.
As a result, one would expect Solskjaer to stick with this system moving forward. But then the question is, where will Sancho fit into this side?
In that system, the only place that he could fit in is in one of the two forward positions. But there, the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood are expected to be ahead of him in the pecking order.
As a result, Sancho could very well find himself on the bench very often this season from here on forward unless he is able to make his mark soon. And that will be a huge worry for Manchester United considering the expectations and huge transfer fee that he came in with.
