Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur must have lifted a lot of the pressure from the shoulders of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Going into the game, he would have known that a defeat could very possibly have resulted in him being shown the Old Trafford exit door. But now, it seems that there is new life in their campaign.
Solskjaer introduced a new system against Tottenham Hotspur, with three at the back and a front line of Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani up top, and it is safe to say that it worked like an absolute treat on the day and might be the way forward for the Red Devils.
But, the manager will also know the importance of building on this win. A bad result in the upcoming games and his future will be in doubt once again.
As a result, it is important to keep an eye on managers who have been linked as potential replacements for Solskjaer. One of them is Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers, with many even considering him as the favourite to get the role if Manchester United did make a change in the future.
Rodgers reveals future plans amid Manchester United links
As reported by Liverpool Echo, Rodgers was asked about what he wants to achieve at Leicester City in the long-term, and the manager told BT Sport:
"“It is an absolutely brilliant club for a manager, a coach, to be here developing players.“You have nowhere near the levels of finance as some of the bigger clubs but what we can certainly do here is compete and that’s what we always want to do.“Great training ground, great bunch of players who will improve and develop and we keep fighting to improve.“We’ll see if we can try and get to the next level.”"
Rodgers has done a tremendous job since becoming the manager of Leicester City. He has guided them to an FA Cup and a Community Shield till now and they competed for a top four spot in both his full seasons at the club, although they did end up falling narrowly short on both occasions.
The big question is, if the opportunity presented itself, would Rodgers leave Leicester City in the middle of the season to join Manchester United?
He has left a club in the middle of the season in the past, when he joined Leicester City from Celtic. It must also be pointed out that the Foxes have not made a great start to the season and currently sit at 10th in the Premier League table.
