Solskjaer told Manchester United star is not good enough
Following Manchester United’s disappointing start to the season, questions have been raised about the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford. The Norwegian will remain in the managerial hot seat for now but if things don’t improve soon, then the club might have no other choice but to show him the exit door. As a result, it is clear that he needs to make some changes in order to bring the Red Devils’ season back on track.
It is safe to say that it is not only Solskjaer about whom doubts have been raised though. There are quite a few players who have not managed to impress in recent times either.
One of them is Fred. The Brazilian midfielder has divided opinion for a while. Some people feel that he has the potential to be a very good player while others feel that he is not good enough to be a starter for Manchester United.
It is clear which side of that argument Alan Brazil sits on. As reported by the Express, the former Manchester United star said on talkSPORT:
"“Midfield’s not good enough for a start. I don’t really want to bring McTominay into it, I think McTominay’s a great sitter, he sits there in front of the back four, it was only several weeks ago where we were saying ‘he’s coming on, he’s got a bit of authority about him now, give me the ball, I won’t give it away’.“He needs a hard working player alongside him and Fred is not the answer.“With the greatest respect to Fred, he tries his hardest, he’s not good enough.“Not to challenge the big three. So United need two or three players.”"
Brazil feels that the Manchester United midfielder is not good enough
There is no question that Fred is an important part of Solskjaer’s Manchester United side. And he earned a lot of praise for his performance against Atalanta in midweek in the Champions League.
But overall, he just has not been able to perform at a consistent level. At times, he has looked great and a long-term solution for Manchester United in the middle of the park. But then, at others, he has not been able to come anywhere near those performances.
Midfield is an area that Manchester United definitely need to improve in sooner or later. And if Fred is not able to find some consistency in his performances soon, he might not be a regular starter for the club in the future.
