Manchester United vs Liverpool: 3 things we learned
Manchester United have problems up front and at the back
When Manchester United signed Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer, it was expected to take this team to the next level. They had already finished second in the Premier League last season and runners up in the Europa League, and many believed that the Portuguese superstar’s signing would finally get them back to their trophy winning ways.
The early signs do not look positive at all in that regard. Over their last nine games, Manchester United have lost five times.
They do not look nearly as good going forward as a team as they did last season, despite the fact Ronaldo has already scored quite a few goals and important ones at that.
But there are problems on the opposite end of the pitch as well. Conceding five goals in such an important game is just incredible.
It is clear that this team needs to improve on both ends of the pitch if they are to compete for trophies this season.
This could be the turning point for Manchester United’s season
This defeat was pretty similar to the one that Manchester United suffered at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur early on in the 2020/21 campaign. The only difference is that there were no fans in the stadium that time around.
Thankfully, that 6-1 defeat had proven to be a positive for Manchester United’s season ultimately. They had managed to turn things around after that and become a very difficult side to beat.
One can only hope that they can do the same thing this time around as well. At the moment, this season is going nowhere for them to be honest.
The Red Devils sit at seventh in the Premier League table after the first nine league games of the season, are already out of the League Cup and although they are top of their Champions League group, they have big away games against Atalanta and Villarreal coming up, and things could change there pretty easily as well.
