Manchester United pulled off a huge comeback to get a 3-2 win over Atalanta in the Champions League, with Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo scoring the goals for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Things were not looking good early on with Atalanta going 2-0 up inside the half hour mark and holding on to that lead until half-time.
Manchester United put in an incredible performance in the second half though, breathing new life into their stop-start season. And the fans will be hoping that this is the start of something good.
Coming into the game, the Red Devils had lost four of their previous seven games across all competitions and this was a much needed victory against a solid team from the Serie A.
3 things we learned as Manchester United pulled off huge comeback against Atalanta
Here are three things we learned as Manchester United came from behind to seal a 3-2 win against Atalanta in the Champions League:
Cristiano Ronaldo does it again
Ronaldo has been topic of discussion amongst fans in recent times. Many have questioned whether Manchester United have taken a step back since his arrival in the summer.
That is certainly up for debate at the moment although we need to wait a bit longer before we can come to any conclusions. What is not up for debate though is the fact that Ronaldo remains a terrific goalscorer and matchwinner. Just like against Villarreal, he found the winner this time as well.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does it again too
Coming into this game, there were many questions about Solskjaer’s future at the club. While rumours had suggested that the club were ready to stick with him, a defeat would have put a lot of pressure on the Norwegian manager for sure.
This was not the first time that he had his back against the wall though. Many times in the past, Manchester United have been in a similar situation with the Norwegian as the manager and somehow, that is when they appear to be at their best.
Marcus Rashford’s return has been huge for Manchester United
It is safe to say that Rashford’s return has been a massive boost for the Red Devils. He has scored in both games, with this one proving to be very vital.
With him undergoing surgery earlier in the summer, the club had certainly missed his presence and it is not hard to see why. One can only hope that he remains fit moving forward.
