Just when it had looked like Manchester United were down and out after going into half-time 2-0 behind against Atalanta, they pulled a rabbit out of the hat once again, scoring three goals in the second half and completing an incredible comeback to seal a 3-2 win. Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo were the scorers on this occasion.

Manchester United came into the game knowing that they needed a win. Over their previous seven games across all competitions, they had lost four, drawn once and won just twice.

It is safe to say that that is not good enough and questions were being asked about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future at the club.

Going into the game, not for the first time, Solskjaer had his back to the wall. And funnily enough, that is when this side appears to be at their best. They were definitely on this occasion from the second half onwards.

Arsene Wenger praises surprise Manchester United star for win vs Atalanta

There were quite a few players who impressed in the second half for Manchester United but Wenger picked out Fred for special praise.

While speaking on beIN SPORTS and as reported by Pundit Arena, the Arsenal legend said:

"“Pogba I thought did well. But I would personally highlight the second half of Fred. Fred saved a few crosses in the box, defensively he was outstanding. He worked unbelievably hard in the second half.”"

Fred has come in for some criticism in recent times for his performances for Manchester United. While he has thrived with the Brazil national team, he has not looked at his best for the Red Devils.

Against Atalanta though, he certainly put in a brilliant performance and was one of the biggest reasons that Manchester United were able to turn things around in the second half.

There is no question about the fact that Fred plays a very important role in this team. What he does might not be flashy but it is very much needed. And such praise from one of the greatest managers in the history of the Premier League will only do his confidence good.
