Manchester United’s upcoming game against Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League is more important in more ways than one. On one hand, the Red Devils need a win to get in a strong position in their group. At the moment, they sit at third. And on the other hand, they need a win in order to get back some momentum after losing to Leicester City at the weekend.

It must be said that Manchester United are in terrible form at the moment. Over their last seven games, they have lost four times, drawn once and won just twice. That is not good enough if they want to challenge for titles this season.

The game against Atalanta is the perfect opportunity to turn things around. But it looks like Manchester United will be missing one of their stars.

Anthony Martial picked up a problem recently and remains out of action for the time being. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed the news. As reported by Manchester United’s official website, he said:

"“Anthony joined in training today but he’s still not fit enough to join us [for the match].”"

It is safe to say that Martial has not been in great form for Manchester United in recent times. He enjoyed a terrific 2019/20 campaign but has not been able to continue performing at that level.

As a result, he finds himself behind both Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani in the striker pecking order at Old Trafford right now and possibly behind Mason Greenwood as well.

But, one has to admit that there have been some positive signs recently around the Frenchman and he even found the back of the net against Everton before the international break.

One can only hope that Martial is able to pick up some form when he returns from injury and is able to get his Manchester United career back on track. There is no question about his talent or potential. It is just consistency and perhaps confidence that he is lacking right now.
