Chelsea sit at the top of the Premier League table while Manchester United have slipped down to fifth. Saturday was also very different for both teams. While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were handed a 4-2 defeat by Leicester City, Thomas Tuchel’s side managed to hold on for a 1-0 win against an in-form Brentford.

But it does feel like both The Red Devils and The Blues have a very similar kind of problem this season. And that has been giving away too many chances at the back, to the point that both their goalkeepers are undeniably their best players this season.

The game against Brentford was the perfect example of this for Chelsea. It is true that they were missing important players at the back but at the end of the day, they could have ended up conceding multiple goals if not for the brilliance of Edouard Mendy, who has been spectacular all season.

On the other hand, Manchester United have relied on David de Gea often this season as well and he has stepped up to the plate impressively. But at the end of the day, both the managers, Solskjaer and Tuchel, will be worried about how many chances their teams are giving away at the moment.

Manchester United and Chelsea have the same problem

It is never bad to have a goalkeeper in form. It is actually quite the opposite and every great team needs a great goalkeeper.

But it is not a great sign when a goalkeeper is called upon to make spectacular saves in every match. It is a different matter whether they step up to the plate and make those saves or not.

That has been the case with both Manchester United and Chelsea far too often in recent games. And while they might be sitting at very different positions in the points table right now, they must be looking for a solution to the same problem.
