Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future at Manchester United appears to be up in the air at the moment. While it looks like the club will stick with the Norwegian manager for the time being, if things do not improve in the future, then they might have no other choice but to make a change. And if that ends up being the case, one name that has been brought up constantly in recent months as a possible replacement is that of Antonio Conte.
Conte enjoyed a spectacular spell at Inter Milan, guiding them back to the Serie A title before departing this summer. At the moment, he is without a club.
There is no doubt about the fact that Conte is one of the best managers in world football right now. And thus, it should not come as a surprise that Manchester United have been linked with him in case Solskjaer’s spell comes to an end. But the big question is, would Conte want to manage a club who have not won a trophy in four seasons?
Some of his recent comments are great news for Manchester United in that regard. As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport (via Mirror), Conte said:
"“I would like to have more experiences abroad. I think that I am not someone who is happy with just a comfortable situation. I always chose the most difficult situation instead.”"
Conte could potentially be a great Manchester United manager
Over his last seven seasons as manager, Conte has won five league titles with three different clubs – Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan.
What is even more impressive is the fact that none of those sides were favourites when he first arrived. And for that he deserves a lot of credit.
At this moment, Manchester United would not be considered as favourites either although they do have one of the best squads in all of football. Thus, someone like Conte could be a brilliant fit for the Red Devils.
For the time being though, it looks like they are going to stick with Solskjaer with hopes that he can turn the season around.
