Manchester United manager confirms huge Harry Maguire news
Manchester United received some terrible news coming out of the international break. Raphael Varane picked up an injury while representing the France national team against Spain in the UEFA Nations League final. He appeared to pull up while running and was substituted off before half-time. The defender will be out of action for a few weeks.
Of course, this is bad news for Manchester United. Firstly, because Varane has established himself in the first-team ever since arriving in the summer from Real Madrid. And secondly because Harry Maguire has been out of action for a few weeks as well with an injury.
Thus, Manchester United could be without both of their first-choice centre-backs in the upcoming games. And this could not have happened at a worse time as the Red Devils are entering arguably their toughest phase of the season. Over their next six games, they will face Atalanta twice, Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City.
There is some positive news regarding Maguire though. As reported by Manchester United’s official website, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said about the club captain’s situation:
"“Harry was on the grass this morning and that was the first day out there.”"

Of course, this does suggest that Maguire could be out of action for a bit longer but this is certainly a massive step in the right direction, especially with Varane expected to be out of action for a while.
In their absence, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof are expected to fill in at the heart of defence. Fortunately, the duo have played together in the past on several occasions and this will not be a new experience for them.
Manchester United face Maguire’s former club, Leicester City, next in the Premier League in what will be a very important game for Solskjaer’s side if they are to keep up in the title race with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.
