Manchester United legend reveals problem with playing Ronaldo

There is no doubt about the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo remains a brilliant goalscorer and match winner. We have already seen that during his second stint at Manchester United, as he has made a great individual start to the season. But for all of his brilliance, the Red Devils have appeared to take a step back this season.

It has looked like things have not just quite clicked yet with Ronaldo on the pitch. In the six games that the Portuguese superstar has featured in since completing his Old Trafford return, Manchester United have won thrice, lost twice and drawn once. And two of those three wins could have easily gone the other way.

The Red Devils just have not looked as fluid as they did for large parts of last season. And it is clear that they need to make some adjustments in order to get the best out of Ronaldo while also improving as a team at the same time.

While speaking on The Overlap and as reported by the Mirror, Gary Neville said regarding the situation:

"“There is big decisions that Ole is going to have to make in the next few weeks to compensate for Ronaldo coming.“So when I said United could win the league with Kane, and I don’t think they can with Ronaldo, I say that with knowledge of both players. I just think the team of Manchester United would be better [with Kane].“However, what they have to find now is a way of playing with Ronaldo in there. I support the signing, I love him to bits, but United have to find a way playing to compensate for him."

The Manchester United legend also added:

"“If you then put Bruno Fernandes in there, you put Mason Greenwood in there, you then put Paul Pogba in there with Cristiano – you’re going to get cut through on the counter-attack and you’re not winning the league.“There’s got to be a balance to the team.”"

Can Solskjaer find the right balance in this Manchester United team?

The biggest challenge facing Solskjaer this season could be finding the right balance in this Manchester United team while playing Ronaldo.

There is no doubt that the Portuguese superstar will score goals and win you games. He has already shown that he is still very capable of doing that.

But overall, it is about taking a step forward as a team and winning titles. That is what Solskjaer has to make sure that Manchester United do this season.

We have already seen Juventus take a step back in both domestic and European competition despite the presence of Ronaldo in their team. Manchester United have to avoid that happening.
