Manchester United have one of the deepest squads in world football when it comes to their options up top. But even then, there is one major worry when it comes to striker and it is the fact that both Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani are well beyond 30 years of age and neither of them is a long-term solution for the Red Devils.
In the case of Ronaldo, he remains a fantastic goalscorer. But at the end of the day, he is 36 years of age and no longer in his prime as a footballer. Questions have also been asked about his suitability in this team.
On the other hand, Cavani is 34 years of age and despite a brilliant second half to the 2020/21 season, he finds himself behind Ronaldo in the pecking order at Old Trafford.
As a result, Manchester United have been linked with several strikers over the past few months. One of them is Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. But the club will have to shell out a club-record transfer fee if they are to sign him.
Manchester United will have to break club record to sign Osimhen
Napoli have made a spectacular start to their Serie A campaign and currently sit at the top of the table. One of the biggest reasons for that has been the form of Osimhen, who has found the back of the net consistently till now.
As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sports Mole), Manchester United, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in the 22-year-old striker. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis though will only listen to offers in the region of €110 million for Osimhen.
Thus, it is safe to say that it will not be easy to sign the in-form striker. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 7 goals and provided an assist in 8 appearances across all competitions for Napoli this season till now.
