Manchester United did the unthinkable this summer by bringing back Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford. For the majority of the transfer window, it had not looked like the return was on the cards. But after rumours about the Portuguese superstar possibly joining Manchester City broke out, the Red Devils appeared to move quickly and get a deal done.
Individually, Ronaldo has enjoyed a brilliant start to life in his second stint at Manchester United. But as a team, the Red Devils have left a lot to be desired.
As a result, it is clear that there are several areas that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side still need to improve in. And it appears that Ronaldo wants the club to sign one of his former Juventus teammates to help in that regard.
As reported by Calciomercato (via The Sun), Ronaldo is eager for Chiesa to join him at Manchester United and Ivan Reggiani discussed the situation on Calciomercato TV, as he said:
"“Appreciated across the Channel [in England], he is heavily supported by Cristiano Ronaldo.“I think Federico can leave Juventus very soon. It can easily exceed one hundred million.“There are not only United: there are two to three clubs that could reach €120-130m [£100-110m].”"
Ronaldo wants Manchester United to sign Chiesa
There is no doubt that Chiesa has been very impressive in recent times. He caught the eye playing for Juventus last season and then did brilliantly with the Italy national team at EURO 2020 as well, as they went on to win the competition.
Thus, if Manchester United are able to sign him, it would be considered as a major coup. But, it is certainly not going to be easy to bring him to Old Trafford.
First of all, he could command a transfer fee around £100 million if not more. And secondly, several other clubs are believed to be interested in signing the Italian international. In fact, Chelsea are rumoured to have had a significant transfer bid rejected for him this summer itself.
Thus, it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds. But Chiesa is definitely a player that Manchester United should have on their transfer radar.
