Manchester United have not been in good form recently, having won just two of their previous six games. Thus, this international break might have come at a great time for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side as they will now get the opportunity to step back and assess the situation a bit, and try to figure out how to improve moving forward.
One area that some questions have been raised about in recent times is the middle of the park. Most fans expected the club to sign a midfielder this summer but they didn’t end up doing so. And Solskjaer appears to be moving forward with the double pivot of Scott McTominay and Fred for the time being.
The upcoming game against Leicester City is going to be a very important one for this team. And, it looks like they will be without Fred on that occasion.
The game between Brazil and Uruguay will leave Fred and Edinson Cavani, who has struggled for playing time this season, with around 36 hours to make it back to England before the Leicester City game, never mind playing in it.
Solskjaer has a big decision to make in the Manchester United midfield
Fred has certainly divided opinion amongst the Manchester United fans over the past few seasons but there is no doubting the fact that he is a player who Solskjaer has relied on heavily. Thus, his absence in an important game does give the manager a big decision to make.
He could very well go with someone like Nemanja Matic or Donny van de Beek to fill in there. The Serbian playing does feel more likely at this point. Or he could drop Paul Pogba back into the midfield.
Whatever may be the case, it will be an interesting and important choice on the part of Solskjaer. Leicester City are a team that Manchester United have struggled against at times in recent years. And this is the type of game that the Red Devils need to win if they are to keep up in the Premier League title race.
