It is safe to say that some doubts have been raised about the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United in recent times following the club’s underwhelming start to the 2021/22 campaign. The club currently find themselves behind Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League table, already out of the League Cup and in a tricky position in the Champions League.
It is undeniable that Manchester United have made a lot of progress during Solskjaer’s time at the club. But now, the question is whether he is the man to guide the club back to silverware.
Jose Mourinho was the last manager to win a trophy with Manchester United and while he has come close at times, Solskjaer has not been able to do that till now.
It does look like though that the club are confident in Solskjaer’s abilities and are ready to back him completely. The Norwegian and his assistant manager, Mike Phelan, have both signed contract extensions with Manchester United in recent times. And as reported by ESPN, coaches Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna are set to sign contract extensions at Old Trafford as well.
Manchester United need to start winning trophies again as soon as possible
Following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, Manchester United bounced around the Premier League table for a good while. Since the arrival of Solskjaer, that has not been the case and they have found some stability once again.
In the Norwegian’s first full season as manager, the club finished third in the Premier League table and then followed that up with a second place finish last season.
Now though, they have to take things to the next level and win trophies once again. The pressure will be on Solskjaer’s side to do that this season following the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton in the summer.
