Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finds himself in a tricky position at Manchester United right now, following the club’s inconsistent performances over the past few matches. The Red Devils have managed just two wins from their previous six games. Not too long ago, they were sitting at the top of the Premier League table but now find themselves at fourth.

After four straight trophyless seasons, the pressure is growing on Manchester United to end their long wait for silverware this season. And after signing Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton this summer, many believed this to be the season when they finally do it.

Solskjaer was handed a multi-year contract extension not too long ago. However, questions are already being asked about his Old Trafford future.

Former Manchester United star, Teddy Sheringham, who was a key part of the club’s legendary treble winning campaign believes that Solskjaer has to guide the club to silverware this time around if he is to remain at Old Trafford. As reported by the Daily Mail, he said:

"‘Without a doubt there is pressure on him this year to win something. If he doesn’t win something, he knows the writing is on the wall.‘They have made the big signings in Varane and Sancho. That would be enough but then Ronaldo becomes available, United acquire him and they need to see results now.’"

Manchester United are under pressure to end their trophyless streak

Manchester United made several vital signings over the summer transfer window. And having finished second in the Premier League last season, many believed them to be one of the favourites for the title this time around.

To be honest, they are still within touching distance of the top spot, sitting just two points behind league leaders, Chelsea. But their recent performances have been a cause for worry.

It is still very early in the season and one should not read too much into the league table right now. It is only after a couple of months that things will truly start to take shape. And one can only hope that Manchester United are in the mix at that point of time.
