One of the main problems that the team was having today was the fact that there were too many players involved in the build-up at times. While this can be a good thing as demonstrated by teams like Barcelona and Manchester City over the years, it was one pass too many for the Red Devils on several occasions today.

They did very well to reach the final third of the pitch, before losing the ball from a loose pass. At times, it appeared that they were trying to be a bit too precise and intricate.

There was one moment when they had a great chance to score but passed it around instead of taking a shot on goal. This is one area that they will need to work on moving forward.

Manchester United needed to cover the flanks better

One of the biggest problems that Manchester United were facing today were the Everton attacks from the wings. Everton was playing on the counter and exploiting the open space on the flanks. And that is an area that Solskjaer’s side will need to be stronger.

Thus, although Manchester United had over 70 per cent of the possession, they only had one shot more than the men in Blue.

Everton certainly had their chances to score and things could have gone very differently once again, as has often been the case in the Red Devils’ games this season. David de Gea was good and pulled off important saves.

At the end of the day, this was another performance from Solskjaer’s side that will raise more questions than provide answers. And this team needs to improve a lot if they are to challenge for titles this season despite the presence of match winners like Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani and others in their team.
