Why Cristiano Ronaldo was upset during Manchester United vs Villarreal
In classic Manchester United fashion, the Red Devils managed to grab a dramatic late win despite the performance leaving a lot to be desired on the night. Sometimes you do not need to be brilliant, just effective. And that’s exactly what they were against Villarreal.
It goes without saying that Unai Emery’s side got more chances and the better ones. But an incredible performance from David de Gea in goal meant that they could find the back of the net only once.
Manchester United equalised through an unlikely source in the form of Alex Telles. And then, it was the likeliest man to score on the pitch, Cristiano Ronaldo, who ended up scoring a stoppage time winner for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Ronaldo must have been delighted with how things ended up going but at one point on the night, it appears that he was not very happy with the service that he was getting. As reported by Manchester Evening News, Telles told TNT Sports:
"“Off the pitch, we already have this closer relationship because we speak Portuguese.“And five minutes before he was a little upset that we didn’t get any balls to him.“I said ‘it will arrive, it will arrive, stay concentrated because it will arrive’. And as soon as I went off, Ronaldo doesn’t need much, right?“We know his quality, we see it on a daily basis. So it only took one ball in the box and he gave us the victory. It’s a dream.”"
Ronaldo has made a major impact at Manchester United
It is safe to say that ever since completing a return to Manchester United this summer, Ronaldo has had a massive impact on this team. He has already proven that he is still an incredible game winner, even when he is not having a great night.
The game against Villarreal was one of his quietest in a Manchester United jersey, but he took the chance when he had it in the end and sealed the win for the Red Devils.
In many ways, that is even more impressive than putting in a great performance because when you have a player like Ronaldo, you know that you are always in the game even if you are on the backfoot for most of the night, like Manchester United were against Villarreal.
