Manchester United made several impressive additions to their squad over the course of the recently concluded summer transfer window. They brought in Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Tom Heaton. The club had already finished second in the Premier League last season and must be considered as one of the favourites in the title race this time around.

Yes, the recent results have not been great. But it is easy to forget that they are still just one point off the top of the table. And with how tight this title race is expected to be, things can turn around at any point of time.

If there is one position that Manchester United are not very strong though, it is defensive midfield. Nemanja Matic is arguably the most natural defensive midfielder at the club right now. But at 33 years of age, he is not a long-term solution there.

Thus, the club have been linked with several midfielders over the course of the last few months. And Fabrizio Romano has named Declan Rice as the first name on Manchester United’s list. While speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE YouTube channel and as reported by This is Futbol, he said:

"“I think the first position is Declan Rice, let me say, in the list. For Man United, the first position is Declan Rice.”"

Manchester United linked with Declan Rice once again

Manchester United have been linked with Rice for a long time now and it is not hard to see why. Still just 22 years of age, he has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and is a regular in the England national team as well.

Thus, if the Red Devils are able to sign Rice, it would be considered as a major coup on their part. But the race for his signature is expected to be tough.

Chelsea are another club who are believed to be interested in signing Rice, who was a part of their youth academy at one point of time. Of course, West Ham United’s stance on a potential transfer will be most important as the midfielder has several years left on his current deal with the club.
