Manchester United find themselves in a tricky position right now. They are not in great form, having lost three of their last four games. And the Red Devils also have a few availability issues going into their upcoming Champions League group stage game against Villarreal, one that they will be under pressure to win after losing the opening game of their European campaign at the hands of Young Boys.

Harry Maguire looks set to miss the game while Luke Shaw’s availability is in doubt as well. Both of them picked up injuries against Aston Villa and had to be taken off as substitutes.

There is another regular starter who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to miss in his backline though in the form of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who was sent off against Young Boys and will not be available against Villarreal as a result.

As a result, Diogo Dalot is expected to get a start in what could very well prove to be his biggest chance at Manchester United since the arrival of Solskjaer as manager.

Dalot looks set to get big Manchester United chance vs Villarreal

It must be said that Dalot has been very impressive in recent times. He enjoyed a decent 2020/21 campaign away on loan at AC Milan and has caught the eye whenever he has featured for Manchester United since returning in the summer.

Dalot was signed by the Red Devils back when Jose Mourinho was the manager of the club. He has not managed to establish his place in the starting XI at Old Trafford till now. But this could be his biggest chance to do so.

With Wan-Bissaka out of the next game, while neither Shaw nor Alex Telles appear to be fully fit at the moment, Dalot, who is capable of playing at both right-back and left-back, can expect to get quite a few chances over the next few weeks. And if he is able to take them, who knows what the future could hold for the Portuguese international.
