Manchester United will need to bounce back from the disappointment from their midweek defeat at the hands of West Ham United when they face Aston Villa this weekend. The 1-0 loss meant that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were knocked out from the League Cup in the third round. The Red Devils have not won a competition in the previous four seasons, thus it was a massive blow to say the least.

What is done is done though and the focus must now turn towards the Premier League, where they have made a terrific start. Manchester United sit at third after five games, level on points with Chelsea and Liverpool but those two sides have a better goal difference.

Solskjaer’s side are coming off of two back-to-back tough games against West Ham United and will be hoping to get some momentum back when they welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford.

They could not find the back of the net in midweek but as reported by Manchester United’s official website, Cristiano Ronaldo is available after being left out of the squad in the 1-0 defeat against West Ham United.

Manchester United have a massive opportunity vs Aston Villa

This will not be an easy game by any stretch of the imagination. Aston Villa are in good form at the moment.

They managed to take Chelsea to penalties in the League Cup before losing and enjoyed a 3-0 win over Everton last weekend. Thus, Solskjaer’s side could have another tough game on their hands.

But it is also a great opportunity for them to go top of the Premier League table. Chelsea will face Manchester City at the weekend while Liverpool have an away trip to Brentford. Both are difficult games and there is a possibility that the league leaders could end up dropping points.

Of course, the first thing that Manchester United will need to do is make sure they win their game. And Ronaldo returning will be a massive boost in that quest.
