Manchester United had been linked with a move for Jadon Sancho for years before finally managing to bring him to Old Trafford this summer from Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee believed to be around £73 million. It is safe to say that the English international has not quite found his feet at Old Trafford yet.
Sancho is yet to score or assist for Manchester United ever since his arrival at the Theatre of Dreams and there is a real possibility that he could slip down the pecking order in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team in the near future.
Coming in, most people would have expected Sancho to be a regular starter for the club. But with Marcus Rashford set to return to action in the near future, Mason Greenwood in terrific form and Jesse Lingard also showing how effective he can be, competition for places on the wings is heating up.
Gabby Agbonlahor has admitted that he is worried about Sancho’s lack of form. As reported by talkSPORT, the Aston Villa legend said:
"“I’m worried because the big man Rashford’s on his way back.“If you’ve not started in the Premier League and Rashford’s coming back, then he’s going to be even further down the pecking order.“Rashford will come straight back into the team with Greenwood on the right and Ronaldo in the middle.“He’s got to start putting in performances before Rashford becomes available.”"
Sancho will need to start putting in performances for Manchester United
It is still early days for Sancho at Manchester United. But with the depth of the Red Devils’ current squad, he could soon find himself slipping down the pecking order if his performances do not improve soon.
It is understandable that he would take some time to adjust to his new surroundings. Many great players in the past have struggled in the Premier League in their first seasons.
And while he is expected to be an integral part of Manchester United for the foreseeable future, he could soon find himself sitting on the bench more often if his performances do not improve.
Sancho was one of the most effective wingers in world football during his time at Borussia Dortmund but is yet to make a goal contribution for Solskjaer’s side.
