Manchester United might end up seeing Paul Pogba leave the club as a free agent in the future, with the Frenchman’s current contract running out next summer. It is understandable that the Red Devils would want the midfield maestro to stay, considering how good he has been in recent times.
Rumours suggest that the club are hoping that he signs a contract extension and that Pogba might be open to staying as well, following Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival this summer. But till now, there has been no breakthrough in terms of a new deal.
Thus, Manchester United must be prepared in case the 28-year-old decides to leave at the end of the season. It is safe to say though that replacing him will not be easy.
As reported by CalcioMercato, Tottenham Hotspur’s Tanguy Ndombele is one of the players being monitored as a potential replacement for Pogba.
Manchester United linked with Ndombele as a potential Pogba replacement
Paul Pogba has been phenomenal for Manchester United this season thus far, providing seven assists from five games, according to stats from Transfermarkt. Thus, losing him, especially on a free transfer, would be a massive blow for the club.
As a result, the best case scenario for the Red Devils would be Pogba signing a contract extension and remaining at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future. But no scenario can be ruled out at the moment.
Ndombele joined Tottenham Hotspur from Lyon back in the summer of 2019 for a transfer fee believed to be around £55 million, making the Frenchman the record signing for The Lilywhites.
It is safe to say that Ndombele has had a mixed time since moving to England. There have been periods of time when he has struggled to break into Tottenham Hotspur’s first-team. At others, he has looked like one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
He certainly has the ability and potential. Now, it is about finding the consistency that is synonymous with every top player.
