Manchester United have enjoyed a very good start to the season despite their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Young Boys in the opening game of their UEFA Champions League group stage campaign. But domestically, they have been brilliant. Winning four and drawing one of their first five games, the Red Devils sit joint top of the table with Chelsea and Liverpool at 13 points each although those two have a better goal difference than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
It is safe to say that things are looking up for Manchester United at the moment. And this team is expected to get even better over the course of the season, as the players gel together and the summer signings adjust to their new surroundings.
Jesse Lingard has had quite a start to the season. He has scored in consecutive Premier League games after coming off the bench. But then, it was his misplaced pass which led to Young Boys’ winner.
Overall though, Lingard has been brilliant in recent times for both club and country. And Fabrizio Romano has provided fresh hope in Manchester United’s quest to extend his contract. Speaking on The Here We Go Podcast and as reported by GiveMeSport, he said:
"“Let me mention Jesse Lingard because he was scoring a key goal for Man United with West Ham, and at the moment the feeling is that he has chances to extend the contract. It’s not agreed yet because the opening proposal was turned down and was not accepted, but they are still negotiating, United and Lingard’s side with his father – Mino Raiola is no longer his agent – so with his father. And let’s see if they’ll be able to find a way but I think now the atmosphere around Lingard is really positive.”"
Manchester United are looking to extend Lingard’s contract
It is safe to say that Lingard has been on top form for quite a while now. He spent the second half of the previous season out on loan at West Ham United after struggling to break into Solskjaer’s first-team and it is during his time with the Hammers that he turned things around for himself completely.
Lingard was absolutely sensational and one of the best players in the Premier League during that period of time. Now back at Manchester United, it looks like he is very much back in Solskjaer’s plans. His current deal runs out next summer.
It will be interesting to see whether he can break into the starting XI on a regular basis with the competition for places extremely high at Old Trafford right now, especially up top.
