Manchester United want to sign AC Milan star if Paul Pogba leaves

Manchester United superstar, Paul Pogba, has started the 2021/22 season in extraordinary form. According to stats from Transfermarkt, the Frenchman has produced 7 assists in just 5 Premier League appearances so far.

He provided 4 assists in Leeds United’s 5-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester United in the opening matchweek of the Premier League this season and has continued his good form since then, even getting a few early season records to his name.

But Pogba’s long-term future remains up in the air as his current deal with Manchester United will run out in the summer of 2022. While recent rumours have suggested that he might be open to staying at Old Trafford, the Frenchman is yet to renew his contract with the Red Devils.

Thus, it makes sense for the club to have plans for all possible scenarios, including Pogba leaving. And as reported by CalcioMercato, AC Milan’s Franck Kessie is a player being monitored as a possible replacement for Pogba.

Kessie can be a spectacular signing for Manchester United

While not a like-for-like replacement for Pogba, Kessie can be a brilliant signing for Manchester United in his own right.

He was one of the most highly-rated youngsters in world football during his time at Atalanta and has since then gone on to enjoy a great time at AC Milan, developing into one of the best midfielders in Serie A.

His current deal with AC Milan is set to run out at the end of this season though and as a result, he will be a free agent next summer if he does not end up agreeing a contract extension with the Italian giants by then. And if he does end up becoming a free agent, several top clubs around Europe are expected to be interested in signing him.

The first-choice for Manchester United does appear to be holding on to Pogba but if that does not happen, someone like Kessie would be a brilliant replacement.
