Manchester United maintained their strong start to the Premier League season with a 2-1 win against West Ham United. As things stand, they sit joint top of the table along with Chelsea and Liverpool although those clubs are ahead of the Red Devils as a result of having a better goal difference. But it must be said that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are one of the frontrunners in the title race this season.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been superb ever since coming in, as it is very clear that he still knows the way to the back of the net and can get it done in the Premier League. Raphael Varane has been good as well. And while Jadon Sancho is yet to find his feet, he is expected to start delivering once he adjusts to his new surroundings.

Another player who looks like a completely new signing is Jesse Lingard. He did not have a great 2019/20 campaign and spent the second half of the 2020/21 campaign out on loan at West Ham United after struggling to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Now though, he looks like a completely different player and has scored in the last couple of games after coming off the bench for Manchester United, as well as finding the back of the net for the England national team recently.

It is safe to say that Lingard has done brilliantly with the chances that he has been given recently. And he showed that he has the ability to bounce back as well, after it was his misplaced pass which had led to Young Boys’ winner in midweek.

He is in the final year of his current deal at Manchester United though and it does not look like he is close to an extension at the moment.

The question is whether he will get enough playing time this season. If he does not then it is very possible that he could end up departing Old Trafford when his contract comes to an end next summer.

It is hard to see where he will fit into this current Manchester United starting XI though. Perhaps moving Paul Pogba into the midfield pivot and playing him at left-wing could be an interesting option. But then, there is tough competition for that spot as well, with Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford at the club.
