There is no arguing the fact that Manchester United have made a lot of progress under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over the past couple of years. The Red Devils had bounced around the Premier League table for years following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson but have managed to achieve some stability recently.

In his first full season as the club’s manager, Manchester United finished third in the Premier League. The following season, they finished second. And after the first four games this season, they are sitting on top of the table. Thus, the improvement over time is clear for all to see.

Despite that though, one feels that Solskjaer’s future is still up in the air. He is yet to guide the club to a trophy during his time as manager. And following their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League, questions were raised about his future again.

Zinedine Zidane is someone whose name has been brought up as a potential Manchester United manager over the years. But it does not look like the Frenchman is very interested when it comes to managing in England. As reported by the Mirror back in 2018, when Zidane was being linked with the Old Trafford job as well, his representative Alain Migliaccio told Le Journal du Dimanche:

"“I do not think that he will manage in England.“It is much less his style. I have discussed it with him, it does not really attract him.”"

Zidane has been linked with Manchester United in the past

Following the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Tom Heaton this summer, the Red Devils will be expected to end their four season-long trophyless streak. So, there is certainly some pressure on Solskjaer to deliver silverware this time around.

It remains to be seen what the future holds but other than the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Young Boys, results have been very positive for the club this season and they must be considered as one of the frontrunners for the Premier League title.

On the other hand, as far as potential managerial candidates go in case Solskjaer departs the club anytime in the near future, Zidane seems an unlikely one to end up at Old Trafford.
