Sir Alex Ferguson’s comments on Manchester United-linked Antonio Conte
With Manchester United tasting another defeat in the UEFA Champions League, questions have been raised about the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer once again. Under his management, their record in Europe’s elite competition has not been great. And while it is definitely too early to take such a decision, especially considering the fact that the Red Devils are sitting on the top of the Premier League table right now, a few more bad results could put the Norwegian under pressure.
If Solskjaer departed the club somewhere down the line this season, one man who would be expected to be one of the frontrunners for the job is Antonio Conte.
Conte has been absolutely sensational as a manager over the past decade or so, guiding Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan to league titles and having a good time with the Italy national team as well.
Sir Alex Ferguson appears to be a big fan of Conte too. As reported by Sky Sports, the Manchester United legend said about him back in 2017 when the Italian manager was still with Chelsea:
"“Fantastic, you see his energy on the pitch. There’s a true saying that the team mirrors the manager, and that’s what they’ve done with him. His team have stayed top of the league for so long. They lost to Arsenal and Liverpool early on, but since then they’ve been up.”"
Conte could be a fantastic manager for Manchester United
There is no doubt that Conte is an incredible manager. He has guided his teams to five of the last seven league titles that they have competed for. What is even more impressive is the fact that none of those teams were the favourites when he took over as manager.
Juventus had finished 7th the season before he became their manager. Chelsea were coming off of a very disappointing 2015/16 campaign and Inter Milan had not won the Serie A title in almost a decade.
For the time being though, Solskjaer is expected to remain the Manchester United manager. It is undeniable that the club have made tremendous progress under him over the past few years and at the moment, they sit at the top of the Premier League table.
