Cristiano Ronaldo has made a brilliant start individually to his second stint at Manchester United. The Portuguese superstar scored a brace on his second debut for the club against Newcastle United and then found the back of the net against Young Boys as well. But it must be said that the club’s results have been mixed so far.

While they did win the game against Newcastle United 4-1, they tasted defeat in the opening game of their UEFA Champions League group stage campaign at the hands of Young Boys.

While Ronaldo would give Manchester United the lead early, Young Boys took control of the game after Aaron Wan-Bissaka was sent off. They would ultimately score twice in the second half to come out of the game with a 2-1 win.

As reported by Metro, Ronaldo was substituted off in the 72nd minute of the game, and he stood in the technical area and yelled instructions with Bruno Fernandes also joining him, something that Rio Ferdinand did not seem too impressed with when reacting on BT Sport afterwards as he said:

"‘If I’m the manager, I’ve got to be honest, I’m telling him to sit down.’"

The Manchester United legend would later soften his stance though and said:

"‘I get it. You know, with Cristiano people go, “Oh it’s bravado, it’s for the fans”. He’s just a passionate guy. He wants to win, he’s desperate to win, and he can’t hold it in.‘If that means he has to go up there and stand next to the manager, shouting instructions etcetera, so be it. When it’s someone of his standing and stature in the game how can you argue with it?’"

Manchester United need to bounce back quickly from the defeat vs Young Boys

Ronaldo has done similar things in the past, most famously in the UEFA EURO 2016 final, when he had to be substituted off with an injury.

To be honest, the Portuguese legend is known for his passion and his determination to win all the time, which have made him one of the greatest players in history.

For the time being though Manchester United have bigger worries. Their record in the Champions League during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time as manager has not been great. And while they remain favourites to make it through to the knockout phase, their task became much tougher.

Also, Manchester United will have to make sure that they bounce back from this defeat as soon as possible as they have a big game coming up in the Premier League against in-form West Ham United.
