Manchester United will face Young Boys in the opening game of their UEFA Champions League group stage campaign. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have made a brilliant start to their domestic season and currently sit at the top of the Premier League. And they would be expected to look to carry that form into Europe as well.

The Red Devils have won three and drawn one of their first four games of the season and are looking like genuine title contenders this time around, especially following the addition of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese superstar marked his return to Old Trafford with an important brace against Newcastle United and he would be expected to lead the line against Young Boys. Another Manchester United player who deserves to start in that game is Jesse Lingard.

He was incredible in the second half of last season while on loan at West Ham United, and has scored for both club and country recently as well. He is yet to make his first start this season though.

Lingard deserves to start for Manchester United against Young Boys

Jadon Sancho has not adjusted to his new surroundings yet and he has not been very impressive till now. The English international is yet to score or assist for the Red Devils.

Thus, it might make sense to give Lingard some minutes against Young Boys. He certainly does appear to be the player in form and could play an important part in this team moving forward, especially if Sancho takes some time to find his feet at Old Trafford.

But then, one could also argue that giving Sancho a start against Young Boys could help him find his form as he is more familiar to Champions League football than the Premier League at this point.

Thus, it will be interesting to see what kind of team Solskjaer decides to field for the UEFA Champions League opener.
