After a brilliant start to the Premier League season that sees them at the top of the table already, Manchester United’s focus will now shift towards the Champions League. The Red Devils will face Young Boys in the opening game of their group stage campaign. Villarreal and Atalanta are the other two teams in Group F.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will want to make a good start to their European campaign. But they will also know about the importance of keeping up their performances throughout the course of the six group stage games.

It was just last season that they made a splendid start to things with wins over Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig in the first two games. But three defeats in the last four meant that they finished third in their group and found themselves in the Europa League.

This time around, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will be keen to avoid the same fate. They will be missing one big name though when they take on Young Boys.

Edinson Cavani has been left out of Manchester United’s squad vs Young Boys

As reported by Manchester Evening News, Cavani is absent from the travelling squad. He picked up a knock in training recently and will stay behind in Manchester to continue on his path to recovery.

Following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, there have been some questions raised about Cavani’s role in this Manchester United team moving forward. The Portuguese superstar is expected to play at striker.

Cavani enjoyed a brilliant second half to the previous season and was playing like one of the best strikers in the world during that period of time. But now, he might very well be the second-choice striker in this team.

But even if that is the case, he is the type of player who will still bring a lot to this side. With the amount of matches that Manchester United will play this season, he could still end up getting significant playing time. And the young players can continue to learn a lot from him off the pitch.
