Fabrizio Romano provides exciting Manchester United contract update
Manchester United must be commended for the summer transfer window that they are coming off of. Cristiano Ronaldo proved in his very first appearance that he still has a lot to offer to this side while Raphael Varane has been a good addition as well. Jadon Sancho has not been at his best yet but is expected to turn things around once he adjusts to his new surroundings while Tom Heaton could have a role to play in the future depending upon the goalkeeping situation at the club.
Overall, it was a brilliant transfer window for Manchester United. Now though, the focus must shift towards keeping the players who are already at Old Trafford.
There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the future of Paul Pogba, who is in the final twelve months of his current deal. But it looks like the Red Devils are looking to extend the contract of Bruno Fernandes as a priority as well.
Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Fernandes’ contract situation on Twitter:
Manchester United are looking to extend Fernandes’ contract
It is not hard to see why Manchester United would want to keep Fernandes at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future. He has arguably been the club’s best player ever since arriving in January of 2020. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 44 goals and provided 25 assists in 84 appearances for the club till now.
There have been some questions raised about whether he will be as effective moving forward following the arrival of Ronaldo. But if his performance against Newcastle United was anything to go by then he should remain as important a part of the team as he has been over the past couple of years or so.
Now, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Fernandes but it is good to see that Manchester United are viewing his contract situation as a priority.
