Manchester United had a brilliant summer transfer window, bringing in the likes of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Tom Heaton early. But that does not mean that there was not any late excitement, far from it. The club completed a sensational move for Cristiano Ronaldo late on.

The move has considerably strengthened the squad and might have made the Red Devils one of the favourites for the Premier League title this season.

The club have not won a trophy in four seasons now and came very close last season, losing the Europa League final on penalties against Villarreal. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must be delighted though with the squad that he has available to him this time around.

With the arrival of new signings, loan moves have seen some of the club’s youngsters leave in search of playing time. One player who was also expected to depart the club over the summer is Diogo Dalot. In fact, rumours suggested that Borussia Dortmund were interested in signing him on loan. But ultimately, the Portuguese right-back has remained at Old Trafford. Was it the right decision though?

Did Manchester United make the right Dalot decision?

Dalot’s time at Old Trafford has not gone as expected considering the potential of the Portuguese right-back. He was signed from FC Porto in the summer of 2018 but has never quite managed to establish himself as a regular in the club’s starting XI.

After a promising loan spell at AC Milan last season, the youngster is now back at Old Trafford. And it looks like an impressive pre-season has seen him break into Solskjaer’s plans.

The Red Devils were heavily linked with a move for Kieran Trippier over the summer but it did not ultimately materialise. Instead, Dalot appears to be the man who will be competing for the right-back spot with Aaron Wan-Bissaka this season. And it will be interesting to see how things turn out over the course of the campaign.

If he ends up playing some decent amount of football then it was certainly the right decision to keep him at the club. If he does not, then we could very possibly see him depart in the future.
