This is a very exciting time to be a Manchester United fan. After completing a stunning return to Old Trafford this summer, Cristiano Ronaldo is set to make his second debut for the club soon. And the Red Devils have been handed a major boost in that regard.

Ronaldo scored twice against the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday to become the all-time leading goalscorer in international football. But he was also issued a yellow card by the referee after removing his shirt to celebrate one of those goals.

This resulted in him being suspended for the upcoming game against Azerbaijan. And as reported by ESPN, Portugal coach Fernando Santos has now released the player from his squad to enable him to fly to Manchester, which will give him more time to prepare ahead of the Red Devils’ game against Newcastle United.

It remains to be seen when Ronaldo will join up with the Manchester United squad but this will certainly be considered as a boost for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Ronaldo can be a terrific signing for Manchester United

Now at 36 years of age, it is safe to say that Ronaldo is no longer in his prime as a footballer and he is not the type of player that he was during his first stint at the club. But even then, he is still a spectacular goalscorer.

It was just last season that he topped the Serie A scoring charts and according to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 101 goals in 134 appearances for Juventus during his time at the club.

Those are incredible stats for any player. And it just goes to show that Ronaldo still knows the way to the back of the net even though he is 36. As a result, he could prove to be a great signing for Solskjaer’s side. One would only hope that he can adjust to the Premier League after being away for over a decade.
