When Romelu Lukaku departed Manchester United, it was believed that Anthony Martial could take his place in the team and become the club’s long-term answer at striker. And he did have a very good first season playing up front, finishing as the club’s top scorer in that campaign.

It is safe to say that he could not match those heights last season and struggled to find the back of the net consistently. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 7 goals in 36 appearances.

As a result, Edinson Cavani finished the season as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice striker and now, the Red Devils have brought back Cristiano Ronaldo to the Theatre of Dreams. Thus, first-team opportunities could be even harder to come by for Martial.

Now, a possibility had cropped up regarding a potential late Old Trafford exit for Martial this summer. As reported by The Athletic, intermediaries are said to have proposed a move for Martial to Paris Saint-Germain in case Kylian Mbappe departs the club but at this late stage, Solskjaer wants the Frenchman in his squad and it will be very difficult to change that stance.

Martial looks set to stay at Manchester United

The talent or ability has never been in question when it comes to Martial. But he has never quite managed to find consistency. If he can do that, then he has the potential to be one of the best players in the Premier League.

Playing with someone like Ronaldo, who has remained one of the best players in the world for around a decade-and-a-half now, could hopefully help in that regard.

Ultimately, it would not be the right decision to let someone like Martial leave this late in the transfer window even if an offer was on the table simply because there is not enough time to bring in a replacement for him.
