It is safe to say that Manchester United have made some terrific signings in this summer transfer window, who could have a huge impact on the club and their chances of winning trophies going forward after four straight seasons without any silverware at Old Trafford, a streak that they must end as soon as possible.

In many ways, the decision to bring back Ronaldo was a surprise one. The club have brought in players of his age in recent years but on free transfers. And for the majority of the summer, it had not looked like a move was on the cards and the Red Devils moved swiftly to get a deal over the line.

It remains to be seen how Ronaldo adjusts to the Premier League at the age of 36 after being away for over a decade, having left Manchester United to join Real Madrid back in 2009. But one player that the club have missed out on the chance to sign this summer is Ilaix Moriba.

Rumours had suggested that the Red Devils were interested in signing Moriba and had even held talks for him. But as tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Moriba is leaving FC Barcelona and will join RB Leipzig for a €15 million transfer fee.

Moriba could have been a great signing for Manchester United

Still just 18 years of age, Moriba managed to break into the FC Barcelona first-team. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he made 18 appearances for the club last season, scoring once and providing 3 assists in the process of doing so.

But it looked like Moriba was not keen on extending his contract with the club and is leaving as a result of it, as his deal was set to expire next summer.

Moriba could have been a great addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. If there is one area in this fantastic squad that they could do with a bit more depth in, it is central midfield. If Moriba continues to develop like he has till now, he could be one of the best players in the world in that position in the future.
