It had been over a decade since Cristiano Ronaldo had left Manchester United to join Real Madrid in a then world record move. But rumours had never quite gone away surrounding a potential return to Old Trafford.

As a result, it is a massive surprise that his return is going to take place in a transfer window when there were not too many rumours floating around about the club making a move for the Portuguese legend.

Now, the question will be about how he will fit into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team and how he will adjust to the Premier League after being gone away for over a decade and at 36 years of age.

It will be interesting to see how things turn out. But there are certainly quite a few, who will be benefited by the return of Ronaldo to Old Trafford.

Questions have surrounded the Old Trafford future of Paul Pogba for a long time now. He is currently in the final 12 months of his contract with the club and could end up leaving as a free agent next summer if he does not sign an extension.

He is not playing like someone who is on his way out of the club at this point of time though. The French midfield maestro has been absolutely brilliant at the start of this campaign.

He provided four assists against Leeds United in the club’s Premier League season opener and then provided one more against Southampton. As a result, he has already provided more Premier League assists this season than in three of his previous five seasons at Old Trafford. With the arrival of somebody like Ronaldo, those numbers would be expected to get a boost.
