Going into the summer transfer window, Manchester United were believed to be eager to increase their squad depth. The signings of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and Raphael Varane from Real Madrid on top of securing Tom Heaton’s services on a free transfer have fulfilled the club’s goal to a large extent.
While new signings always bring happiness to the fanbase, they bring competition for places within the team as well. The Red Devils already had the likes of Marcus Rashford, Daniel James, Anthony Martial, Amad and Mason Greenwood capable of playing on the wings.
The arrival of Sancho will only elevate the competition within the squad for the starting places. Of course, it could also lead to some departing the club in search of playing time.
James is someone who has been linked with an Old Trafford exit for a while now. But as reported by The Athletic, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer informed James that he was fully in his plans for the season and he would not be leaving Manchester United.

James looks set to remain at Manchester United
It looks like James has been informed that despite interest in his signature from a number of clubs, he will be remaining at Old Trafford. So it should not have come as a surprise when he started the Red Devils’ Premier League season opening game against Leeds United. Interestingly, he has been linked with a move to Marcelo Bielsa’s side in the past.
On the other hand, recent rumours have suggested that Amad has been impressing in training lately and could stay at the club for the season as well although most would have expected him to leave on loan in search of playing time. Of course, that option is still on the table also.
Signed from Swansea City for a transfer fee believed to be around £15 million in the summer of 2019, James has has shown his effectiveness during his time at Old Trafford although he might not be a first-team regular for Solskjaer’s side. Thus, there is certainly a role for a player like him in the squad.
