Heading into the game against Southampton, it is safe to say that Manchester United were the heavy favourites.
The Red Devils had enjoyed a brilliant Premier League season opener with a 5-1 win over Leeds United. On the other hand, Southampton lost their opening game of the season at the hands of Everton.
But it ended 1-1 at St Mary’s Stadium. It was Southampton who got the lead through an own goal from Fred. Mason Greenwood managed to equalise in the second half. Ultimately though, neither team could find a winner and had to share the points.
It was not a brilliant performance from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. If they are to challenge for the Premier League title, they will need to win these type of games. Paul Pogba was someone who managed to shine despite the draw though. He provided the assist for Greenwood’s goal and dictated things at times. Even Gary Lineker seemed impressed with the French midfielder. He tweeted out:

Pogba shines despite Manchester United draw
It is safe to say that Pogba has been brilliant over the past two games. He provided four assists against Leeds United and got the important assist against Southampton as well. He was arguably the best player on the pitch for the Red Devils on both days.
As a result, his contract situation will be a worry for the Red Devils. Pogba is currently in the final 12 months of his current deal and if he does not sign an extension in the near future, then he will become a free agent next summer.
It goes without saying that Pogba remains a massive part of Solskjaer’s plans and of this team. Thus, him leaving would be a huge blow for the Red Devils.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Pogba, as it looks like he has not decided his future yet.
